Regular
mailbox maintenance
helps e-mail messages get through.
All
mailboxes have a limit to how much mail they can receive. Your
e-mail address has a virtual mailbox that can hold hundreds of
messages but, like your physical mailbox at home, if too many
large packages arrive [i.e., large documents, pictures, graphics]
and you exceed the available space, other mail cannot be received.
When your mailbox exceeds its size limit,
mail gets returned to the original sender with the message that
your mailbox is full. There are some simple precautions you
can take to avoid this.
Make
sure the e-mail program you are using (i.e., Outlook, Outlook
Express, Incredimail, etc) is configured to remove the mail from
the server so that space is made available for new messages.
This is an option listed under your mail settings on the
"advanced" tab inside Outlook and Outlook Express.
Directions on how to setup this feature with programs that AH
Computer Services supports are on our website at http://www.ahcomputers.net/webmail/setup.
If you
pick up mail in more than one location you may want to set your
mail program to leave messages on the server for a couple days so
that you can receive a message both at home and in the office, or
at the office and on a remote PC. In these cases, we
recommend using 3 or 4 days as the time frame before mail is
removed.
If you
access your mail via WebMail** (i.e., you go to the web page http://mail.ahcomputers.net
and login here) be aware that all of your folders for this service
count toward the total size of your mailbox. If you delete mail
here be sure to go to the trash folder and empty it. (To empty the
trash through WebMail, simply change to view the "trash"
folder and locate the "Empty Folder" button at the
bottom of the page.) If you send a
lot of mail, be conscious that the items you keep in your sent
folder contribute to a total mailbox size. Remove anything that
you will not need to refer back.
Suspected
spam mail that is relocated to the spam folder is automatically
deleted after three days. However, you may delete items from
this folder at will if you are concerned about reaching your
mailbox limit. If you find something in your spam
folder that you want to keep, move it to another folder or it
will be deleted by the system.**
If you
follow these steps your e-mail mailbox will operate efficiently
and you won't miss messages because they couldn't be
accommodated.

features are part of AH Computer Services WebMail program and
are not applicable to customers who subscribe to basic e-mail.
