Spam Filtering and My Mailbox
You have all been given a "spam" folder
within your e-mail account and beginning today all mail that is marked
by the spam filter (aka [SPAM]) will be automatically moved from your
in box and placed in this folder. Typically our spam filter will
remove e-mail with offensive subject lines (and while that is a
relative decision what is offensive, we try to remove all cuss words,
drug offers, pornography, sexual terminology and the most popular
current sale pitches that are sweeping the internet).
Your spam filter needs to be trained.
Out of the box these filters are generic. You will get different spam
mail than others in your office or other clients. But you can
train your spam filter to remove e-mails you never want to get in the
future.
You should look through the spam folder contents daily
to be sure that e-mail you need to receive is not being caught by the
spam filter. E-mails in your spam folder will be automatically removed
after three (3) days so you do not have to empty or delete this mail
manually. Note: You can only view your spam folder
online through the web mail access feature at
http://mail.ahcomputers.net.
If you see mail in your spam folder that is
incorrectly marked, open the e-mail in your web mail browser.
Next to the sender's name there will be two indicators--one if a green
check mark and the other is a red circular arrow. Click on the
GREEN CHECK MARK. A new window will open to help you through the
steps in the filter. In the early days of using your e-mail you
can just indicate at the bottom of the form either the ACCEPT, DELETE,
or MARK AS SPAM option and then click "ADD". This creates an
e-mail rule for your mailbox that either automatically passes e-mail
from this person or automatically rejects e-mail from this sender
(depending upon which option you used).
You may have noticed the same indicators at the end of
the subject line of your e-mail. Use these indicators primarily
if you belong to a news-group, bulletin board or receive e-mails from
a group that uses the same subject line in each e-mail.
If you find you are having a particularly difficult
time with creating spam filters, you can contact us at
spam@ahcomputers.net and we
will help set up additional filtering for you.
Our spam filter has been programmed to catch most of
your general unsolicited email. However, we do not expect to ever
catch 100% of all spam mail because spammers are very creative and are
constantly changing their approach and coding. As soon as we are sure
we are not incorrectly flagging important mail.
